Completion of a pre-course document to determine your aims and objectives. Please feel free to call and discuss these. They will almost certainly evolve over the programme.
NLP Practitioner training is frequently referred to as being “transformative”, and for good reason. It is, and produces enhanced understanding and amazing insights into how we do what we do, how and why we have done what we have done, and most importantly, how we can go about achieving that which we seek to achieve in the future. Participation in such training requires all parties to be assured that they are up to the rigour, and challenge, that such a potentially transformative experience can bring. Participants are therefore advised to consider and declare any medical condition, thoughts, or state of mind that may be of relevance. Examples of such conditions might include:
a) Depression; b) Mental Illness; c) Heart Conditions; d) Epilepsy; e) Personality disorder; f) Or any other condition you might consider appropriate to disclose.
Personal development information including recommended reading material.
Whilst it’s not a requirement, Kochin recommends that participants prepare to optimise their training experience through some pre-course reading, and or participation in an Introduction to NLP event such as those delivered by Kochin.
Like most things in life we generally have varied reading styles and preferences, so I have recommended a range of practitioner books that will appeal to different people. I have also reviewed a series of books and the ones I particularly recommend feature on the Amazon widget located on this Kochin web page. Click here
1) NLP Workbook. Joseph O’Connor
2) NLP for Dummies
3) NLP The new Technology for Achievement. Steve Andreas
At an appropriate point in the training I may take the opportunity to offer guidance on further learning and reading material.

Information on your trainer
Kochin is owned and managed by Richard Pearce. His involvement in NLP, coaching and people development started in 1994, after being introduced to NLP by staff working within Sandwell Council department for Human Resources. Employed by Sandwell Council as a development manager and attached to one of the Country’s most successful Urban Regeneration Partnerships, his task was to establish the Councils original and largest Joblink unit, a community based organisation that supports disadvantaged people to access the labour market.
It was at Joblink that Richard developed a greater understanding and realisation that human effectiveness had more to do with beliefs, values, behaviours, identity and purpose, than academic qualifications and the ability to prepare a flash CV.
15 years on, and Richard heads Kochin NLP Training and Consultancy Services, in addition to remaining heavily involved in policy design, innovation and the worklessness strategy for Birmingham City Council.
Richards ongoing career and personal development to date includes:
Note: There are occasions where partner trainers are introduced to provide variety, add value to the learning experience, and enhance various elements of the training, including accreditation.
Training / Learning styles
Kochin recognises and responds to the diversity of preferred learning styles through the delivery of a multi-sensory learning experience with plenty of hands on (experiential) learning opportunities. Expect pace to vary, lots of visuals, plenty of stories and metaphor, movement, confusion, bewilderment, awareness, surprises, witnessing of relief and emotions as people experience amazing insights, plus bucket loads of fun and laughter. And that’s before lunch.
Yes, learning NLP is a bit of a sensory roller coaster, hang on and enjoy the ride.
In some ways learning NLP is not dissimilar to any other learning experience in life where you get out, what you put in. The trainers role is one of facilitator, I can’t learn for you, and it’s here that your adoption of the values and behaviours of curiosity, fun, anticipation and accepting responsibility for your own learning, will accelerate even further, that which you are going to get from the training.
Assessment methods used during training.
Assessment is integrated into and conducted throughout the programme. It’s conducted in a structured low key professional manner and provides the basis for good healthy participant feedback. Key assessment components are based upon:
1) Observation throughout programme, ongoing assistant peer & self assessment.
2) Completion of regular reflective learning journal (written) for which you can expect constructive feedback.
3) Completion of practical exercises.
4) Completion of a multiple choice questionnaire.
5) Written assignment
6) Incremental demonstration and integration of competencies throughout the programme.
7) An excellent opportunity to complete a short modelling exercise and secure feedback on both its design and execution.
Criteria for Kochin Certification.
Kochin Certification is based upon Industry best practice and guidelines. We are committed to ensuring that your training is enjoyable, of a high standard, and that you successfully complete your training journey, knowing your final competency levels are at least equal to, or higher that of other comparable training programmes. Kochin is registered as an NLP trainer with the ANLP.
It is worth noting that Kochin utilises a process of continual "sensory specific" constructive feedback for students. This method ensures all students receive "rich" feedback on their developing competencies, and where appropriate, areas for continued development. We will where / if required, provide additional guidance to ensure students address any "transitional" weakness's and in so doing can feel confident about securing certification on completion of training.
NLP Training
It should be pointed out that there is no “one”, universally, or even nationally recognised NLP accreditation procedure, qualification or standard within what is a self governing and unregulated industry. My personal journey to become an NLP Trainer has taken many years culminating in NLP Trainer Training and certification with the renowned John Seymour associates. I am also registered an an NLP trainer with the Association of NLP, in adition to being a qualified / registered trainer with the Chartered Institute and Personel and Development (CIPD)
Practitioner training varies from five through to 20 days, with many parties convinced they have it right. Kochin has decided to go with 10 days, and is neither wrong, nor right to have done so. Note: Kochin reserves the right to add additional days onto the programme (at no extra cost other than your time / travel etc).
Our choice of ten days is partly based upon a desire to increase access to "quality" NLP to a wider audience than has happened to date, particularly those who might otherwise have found costs to be on the high side, yet rightly, still demand sufficient time to explore, question and understand, rather than rush through from one technique, to the next technique.
Birmingham NLP Training / Kochin accreditation requires you to:
Kochin training certification is recognised by the Association of NLP (ANLP). The Kochin certification criterion is based upon industry best practice, and we believe equivalent to, and surpasses most of the shorter courses, including many longer 20 day programmes. Participants should note that certification is based upon your ability to demonstrate the acquisition and integration of competencies. It is not an attendance certificate.
Birmingham NLP Training / Kochin offers two levels of certification on completion of NLP Practitioner Training.
